Learn Korean with One Verb: 가요 (Gayo) | Easy Korean Sentences for Beginners

Learn Korean with One Verb: 가요 (Gayo)

Learning Korean becomes easier when you practice one simple pattern at a time.

In the previous lessons, we practiced 먹어요 (meogeoyo), meaning "to eat," and 마셔요 (masyeoyo), meaning "to drink."

Today, we'll learn another useful Korean verb:

가요 (gayo) — to go

You'll see the same sentence pattern again and again. Only the place changes.

By repeating one simple pattern with different words, you can learn new vocabulary and become more comfortable reading Korean naturally.

A peaceful Korean street leading to a school on a quiet morning.

Today's Sentence

Today's sentence is simple and useful.

Read the Korean sentence first.

Then check the Romanization.

Finally, read the English meaning.

🇰🇷 학교에 가요.

🔤 Hakgyoe gayo.

🇺🇸 I go to school.

Try reading it several times.

Don't rush.

The goal is to become familiar with the pattern:

Place + 에 가요.

This means "I go to + place."

A warm and cozy Korean café with soft natural light and a peaceful atmosphere.

One Pattern, Many Places

Now let's change only one word.

The sentence pattern stays the same.

🇰🇷 카페에 가요.

🔤 Kape-e gayo.

🇺🇸 I go to a café.

🇰🇷 회사에 가요.

🔤 Hoesa-e gayo.

🇰🇷 공원에 가요.

🔤 Gongwon-e gayo.

🇺🇸 I go to the supermarket.

A Small Korean Pattern to Notice

Did you notice the word 에 (e) after each place?

학교에 가요.

카페에 가요.

공원에 가요.

When you talk about going somewhere in Korean, can mark the destination.

You don't need to memorize a complicated grammar rule today.

Just notice the pattern and read it again:

학교에 가요.

카페에 가요.

공원에 가요.

The more often you see the pattern, the more natural it will begin to feel.

A calm Korean library with bookshelves, wooden tables, and soft natural light.

Today's Challenge

Now it's your turn.

Choose a place you like and complete the pattern:

_____에 가요.

For example:

🇰🇷 집에 가요.

🔤 Jibe gayo.

🇺🇸 I go home.

🇰🇷 은행에 가요.

🔤 Eunhaeng-e gayo.

🇺🇸 I go to the bank.

🇰🇷 시장에 가요.

🔤 Sijang-e gayo.

🇺🇸 I go to the market.

Read your sentence aloud.

Then try writing it by hand.

You don't need to learn many things at once.

One verb. One pattern. A few new words.

That's enough for today.
